Machine Readable Passports

Government of India has decided to introduce Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) from 26th August, 2007.Applicants are required to fill in the applications online.  This option will be available under online registration option on www.passport.gov.in/nri/   After filling up details, a web file number and application form shall be generated and can be printed by the applicant. (In case applicants are unable to get the printout of the filled-up form due to any reason, the same can be printed later by entering Web File Number and date of birth.).  This printed application form, along with required documents and fee, should be submitted to the Embassy. Applicant is required to paste one photograph on the form and must also furnish his specimen signature in the space provided.

(Until the online registration is made available on the said website, applicants can approach the Embassy with manually filled-up forms)

On receipt of the application, it will be scrutinized, granted and scanned for preparing the passport.  It may be noted that the photograph must be square of the size 4cmX4cm and signature of size 1.5 cm X 4.5 cm strictly.

 (Photograph should be against a light back-ground with a little space overhead.  Shoulders should also be visible. Signature should be in the centre of the space provided for without touching the border)

Photograph/Signature not in conformity with the requirements, shall be straight away rejected causing unnecessary delay in the preparation of the passport.

Passports shall be printed in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi and shall be couriered to this Embassy within ten days for onward distribution to the applicants. However, in emergency cases, the Mission would be able to issue handwritten short validity passports (for six months only).

Kindly note the following points

a) Please write all the details as in your present passport. Any change requires documentation proof.  Affidavit to be signed in front of the Consular Officer, Embassy of India, Berne. . Present address can be changed.

b) Please clip all the documents - do not staple it

c) Stick one photo – clip 3

d) Specimen Signature – Signature should be in the centre of the space provided for, without touching the borders, after taking printout of the filled in application from.

e) Photo 4 cm x 4 cm - should be taken against a light back ground with little space overhead, face in the centre and shoulders should also be visible.                                     

f) Pay the passport fee in Post  Account No- 30-4418-9 Embassy of India Berne and send the original slip with application.                                                                            

g) Copy of Swiss stay/work permit should be enclosed.                             

h) Self addressed stamped envelop

Existing Indian Passport in original.

Post Payment Receipt in original (Post A/c No. 30 – 4418 – 9).

Duly attested Marriage Certificate in original plus 1 photocopy.

4 (four) recent and identical passport size (4X4 CM) photographs.

Photocopy of Residence Permit/proof of address (If ration card is submitted, it should be
accompanied by one more proof)

Salary & Bank Statement showing applications  financial standing in support of columns
 Nos. 4 and 5 in the Sponsorship Affidavit form.

Duly filled in and signed Sponsorship Affidavit Form.
 

11.

In the case of child, Declaration from parents that the child is currently living with them in
Switzerland and that the child has no other Travel Document.
 

12.

For all services, one photograph is to be pasted properly in the box provided in the application form (Page 1) and should be signed across with half the signature on the photograph and half on the form. Application form will not be accepted without photograph of the applicant.
 

13.

Self addressed and stamped return envelope.
 

Amount of fee and numbers of the required items (listed in the Table given above) are shown against  each each Passport/ Miscellaneous service. Please send all the required items together to ensure  speedy completion of service

(i) On Final Expiry of Existing Passport: (Jumbo Passport Fee : Sfr.89.00) (60 pages).

As per new rules, children’s names will not be endorsed in the passport of their parents. They will be issued separate passports for 5 years or for the period till the child becomes 18 years old, whichever is less. The existing endorsements in the parents’ passports are, however valid.
